PROMETEO provides a framework for stakeholders, led by industry, to define research and development priorities, timeframes and action plans on a number of strategically important issues for the successful development and deployment of Embedded Technologies in Spain.

The Platform is supported by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism (MITyC), and has the permanent collaboration of the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) a Spanish public organisation, under the MITyC.

Following its homologous European Platform (ARTEMIS), the Spanish Platform was established back in June 2005 as a response to the growing need of the Embedded Systems Intensive industry (both producers and users) to increase and assure its competitiveness on the long run, based on global and strategic R&D and innovative actions. With more than one hundred companies and agents in the network, PROMETEO plays a significant role in ensuring an adequate focus of research areas with a high degree of industrial relevance, by covering the whole economic value chain and by mobilising industry, academia and technology centres in the same direction. PROMETEO fosters effective public-private partnerships and creates a network of agents active in the field of Embedded Systems. PROMETEO members are powerful actors in the development of Embedded Systems in Spain and Europe, participating in several associations and bodies. Significant to the field of Embedded Systems is important to hig hlight the participation of PROMETEO members in both the ARTEMIS ETP and the ARTEMISIA Industrial Association.

Last but not least, the Spanish Technology Platform PROMETEO has a mirror PROMETEO-Office innovation unit that provides services to both Spanish companies looking for FP7 or ARTEMIS JTI related projects and other European companies looking for Spanish companies that could form project consortiums.
